Chiara Christina Hollaus, a student of the Innovation and Management in Tourism program, secured 2nd place in the innovation competition "Wanted: Sustainable Last Mile Delivery Heroes." Her concept "GreenHub 360" impressed the expert jury with an innovative solution for sustainable pickup stations and was recognized as one of the top three ideas.

The competition, organized by Salzburg Research as part of the SuCoLo research project, sought creative, feasible solutions for environmentally friendly delivery and pickup options. A total of 53 ideas were submitted on the open innovation platform IdeaSpace and evaluated by the community as well as an expert jury.

Participation in Salzburg Research's crowdsourcing initiative was initiated through the course "Sustainability in Tourism": Crowdsourcing as a measure to generate sustainable product and process ideas was part of the course. Together with Salzburg Research, content was designed, and students had the opportunity to engage with creative ideas for sustainable supply chains.

GreenHub 360 – Sustainable Pickup Station for Eco-Friendly Delivery

With GreenHub 360, Hollaus addresses one of the biggest challenges of sustainable delivery: the efficient bundling of deliveries at a central point. Her concept envisions a strategically placed pickup station that can be used for both picking up and returning packages. By reducing the last mile, transport routes can be shortened, emissions reduced, and costs saved.

The Three Winning Ideas of the Competition:

  1. "PaketPlus: The Human Pick-Up Station" by xmaddu – An innovative solution for the social and ecological optimization of the last mile, which was also named the Community Winner.
  2. "GreenHub 360" by Chiara Christina Hollaus – A sustainable concept for central pickup stations that shortens transport routes and increases delivery efficiency.
  3. "Community Monopoly for the Last Mile" by Stefan Fischer – A model for the decentralized organization of sustainable deliveries by communities.

We warmly congratulate Chiara Hollaus on her great success and look forward to more innovative ideas from the program!
